‘Privileged’ Squad member slammed for wanting taxpayers to foot her student loan debt
Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who makes $174,000 base salary, is under fire for citing her own unpaid $70k debt as a reason taxpayers should assume the responsibility for student loan debt.
“I worked full time, Monday through Friday, and took weekend classes to get my law degree. And still, close to $200,000 in debt. And I still owe over $70,000 and most of it was interest,” Tlaib said on the House floor Thursday.
“That’s 40% of your minimum annual income. Pay it off already,” tweeted Ian Haworth.
“Two thirds of this country didn’t go to college, and these idiots like Tlaib want them to pay for privileged idiots’ student loan balances,” someone else tweeted.
“She’s a perfect example of why we shouldn’t forgive student loans. She makes 175,000 a year and wants the tax payer to assume her debts? No, pay your bills you deadbeat. Student loan forgiveness is upper class welfare,” stated Matt Walsh.
Debt accrued from student loans and financial aid in the United States sits at about $1.7 Trillion and is the fastest growing debt in the United States. “Congress Woman Tlaib, with all the education you possess, I am surprised at your lack of knowledge in basic economics,” one veteran schooled her. “Econ 101, you cannot cancel debt, only transfer that debt to others. You wanted the law degree, pay for it. I funded my education with military service.”
“You’re making nearly $200k now, well above the average salary for a lawyer in DC, though you would not likely make that in the private sector, having passed the bar three years after graduating and apparently never having worked as an attorney. Pay your debt, what is the issue?” asked renowned lawyer Harmeet K. Dhillon.
“Translation: I’m a bovine idiot. I’m terrible at law, as I make contracts I don’t intend to keep. I’m also inept at math, since I can’t figure out how to calculate interest over time. Happily, for an irresponsible moron, I’ve landed myself in the perfect place: CONGRESS!” tweeted Dinesh D’Souza.

“I paid my loans off a year ago. We lived in a tiny house. Worked hard. Made sacrifices in order to do it. Grow up and take some responsibility for your decisions @RashidaTlaib,” agreed someone else.
“Say a single woman who makes almost $200k a year is commissioning about her student loans. #FirstWorldProblems,” commented one person.
“Let me translate,” someone else chimed in. “I made a hasty decision to go to law school not realizing the job market was challenging. Couldn’t find a job or couldn’t hack it as a lawyer so I I decide to be a politician. Could you bail me out? @RashidaTlaib.”
“Her law school, Western MI Univ Cooley, charges $40K/year tuition. Its graduates make about $50K. It’s a 4th tier law school. I don’t think she got her money’s worth. She kind of has a point: middling schools get naïve kids deep into hock for nothing,” someone pointed out.
“The Socialist Squad’s Student Loan Debt: AOC: Owes between $15,001 and $50,000 Omar: Owes between $15,001 and $50,000 Tlaib: Owes between $50,001 and $100,000 Are we really surprised they’re pushing so hard to cancel student loans?” someone asked in a 2020 tweet.
