Mom charged with neglect after 12-year-old gives birth to 24-year-old man’s child

An Oklahoma mother was arrested after her 12-year-old daughter gave birth to a 24-year-old man’s child.
“A few weeks ago, we told you about the arrest of 24-year-old Juan Miranda-Jara. He was arrested for 1st Degree Rape after a 12-year-old girl gave birth to his child in a midtown hospital,” the Tulsa Police Department said in a statement.

“At the time, we received many questions along the lines of, ‘Where were the parents?’ The investigation revealed that the victim’s mother and family members were aware of the relationship between the victim and Miranda-Jara. The family permitted the relationship, and there are photos of the family throwing a baby shower for the victim and the suspect,” the department added.
The department said that the girl’s mother, Desiree Castaneda, has been arrested and charged with enabling child sex abuse and child neglect. They added that the 12-year-old’s father is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for first-degree rape, unrelated to this case.

Hospital staff called the police after the couple came into the hospital for the girl to give birth. “They walked in just like any other couple would. Excited to deliver their newborn child,” Tulsa Police spokesman Danny Bean said.
“The suspect, Juan Miranda-Jara, stated that he was in a relationship with the 12-year-old victim that started in October of 2020,” the department said in a statement earlier this month. “Miranda-Jara admitted that he is the biological father of the 12-year-old’s baby. Miranda-Jara was arrested for 1st Degree Rape of a minor.” The age of consent in Oklahoma is 16.
The newborn is currently healthy with no complications. Both the baby and the 12-year-old girl are in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
