Liberals extol officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt: ‘Hero’
Responses to the revelation of the officer who shot and killed Capitol Hill rioter Ashli Babbitt raised eyebrows as many on the left cheered the 35-year-old Air Force veteran’s death.
“Once we barricaded the doors, we were essentially trapped where we were,” Lt. Michael Byrd, the officer who killed Ashli Babbitt, said in an interview with NBC News about the events that unfolded on Jan. 6. “There was no way to retreat. No other way to get out.”
“If they get through that door, they’re into the House chamber and upon the members of Congress,” Byrd added.
Byrd shot Babbitt one time and killed her inside the Capitol building.
“I know that day I saved countless lives,” Byrd said. “I know members of Congress, as well as my fellow officers and staff, were in jeopardy and in serious danger. And that’s my job.”
Responses to Byrd’s interview and revealing his identity were widespread on social media, as many on the left cheered the death of Babbitt.
“The fact that this man had to come out like this and try to explain why he did what he did is absolutely brain numbing! It was his assigned duty to protect the place! He did his job,” said one Twitter user.
“Yes, he did his job – and I wish he had stayed out of the limelight. I fear for him and his family,” said another whose profile picture is the number “45” with a circle slash, an anti-Trump message.
“My favorite hero!! He put a terrorist in the ground,” said someone else.
“This man has true courage. He’s not letting anybody force him to run scared. He just fired his “gun” again! Right in their face! Proud of this man,” said another.
“We’ve seen so many killed for less than what she did. A CD loose cigs loud music, thank you LT. BYRD,” said another Twitter user, implying Babbitt’s death was justified due to previous high-profile officer-involved shootings of black men.
“I’m old enough to remember when killing unarmed people used to cause riots,” said another.
“Funny how all these comments are she deserved it even though she was unarmed, fine that’s what you believe, it was stupid for them to be there anyway, but remember this comment section next you see an African American while having a weapon and yall claim it wasn’t right,” replied someone else.
