Former President Obama criticized for planning birthday bash with hundreds of guests

Former President Barack Obama will reportedly host hundreds of guests at his 60th birthday celebration, despite a nationwide rise in Covid cases and increasing public regulations.

“If you’re talking about a small party like I might have at my house for six or eight people who are all fully vaccinated, I do not believe, at this point, we need to put masks on to be next to each other,” said Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health. “But if there were 100 people, and, of course, how are you really going to be sure about people’s vaccination status?”

The birthday party will be an outdoor gathering and all guests are asked, but not required, to be vaccinated. The Obamas have also hired a COVID-coordinator to enforce virus safety protocol. They offered no comment on whether guests will be required to wear masks.

The party will be held at the Obamas’ 30-acre oceanfront estate, in their $12 million home. There are reportedly over 470 confirmed guests and over 200 staff that will be onsite for the event.
