She is now the first biological male to compete in the Miss USA pageant, If she wins, she will be the second biological male to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.

“Prelims done, and Finals in a few hours. Gown made by me @katalunakouture. In honor of pride month, and all of those who don’t get a chance to spread their colors,” Enriquez shared on Instagram Sunday.

Enriquez placement in the Miss USA pageant comes at a time when biological men competing against women in sports has engulfed much of the national conversation. Last week, the Olympics received major backlash after admitting the first biological male weightlifter to compete against women in this year’s Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
